Passionfruit
An abstract exploration of the human form through a tropical lens.
Art collection | 2018
Kingston, Jamaica
The Concept
Passionfruit explores the ways the human form communicates without words. Through gestures, posture and movement, the collection reflects on intimacy, connection and the quiet emotions that exist between people.
Using abstract compositions, each work captures moments suspended in time, drawing inspiration from dance, touch and the natural rhythm of the body. Tropical plants, vibrant fruit and bold Caribbean colour palettes become extensions of the figures themselves, creating a visual language that feels warm, expressive and alive.
Rather than telling a single story, the collection invites interpretation. It embraces conversation, allowing each viewer to discover their own meaning within the relationships, emotions and energy held inside every piece. Passionfruit is a celebration of movement, humanity and the unmistakable feeling of a Caribbean summer.
Abstract Human Connections
The collection uses the body as a symbol. Figures merge into one another, energy flows between partners, and vibrant tropical fruit becomes a visual language for love, vulnerability and transformation.
Works like Coconut, Passionfruit and Mango Heat explore the relationship between masculine and feminine energies, where thought meets emotion, strength meets tenderness and connection becomes something that can be seen and felt.
The fruit itself is never just fruit; it becomes a metaphor for growth, nourishment and the richness of human relationships.
Every Perspective Tells a Different Story
Several works invite viewers to reconsider perspective.
Cherry Wine and Aug 26 were designed to be viewed from multiple angles, revealing new compositions as the artwork is rotated.
These shifting viewpoints mirror the way relationships evolve over time, reminding us that no connection is ever experienced from a single perspective.
Every painting asks the viewer to slow down, look again and discover something they may have missed the first time.
The Foundation of My Practice
Passionfruit, a collection of 6 pieces, established the ideas that continue to shape my work today:
• storytelling through symbolism
• bold colour palettes rooted in the Caribbean
• artwork that invites conversation rather than passive observation
While later collections expanded into dancehall culture and immersive technology, the foundation remains the same: a curiosity about people, their relationships and the invisible forces that connect us.
Whether you're discovering this collection for the first time or revisiting it years later, Passionfruit remains an invitation to see the human experience through a different lens; one shaped by warmth, movement and the vibrant spirit of the Caribbean.
